Wacky Collecting
This is a new page. I will eventually include pictures.
I like to collect 20th century things namely old toys. I must say I would rather have something that I can use. I don’t thrift as much for the savings as for the thrill of finding new old stock of things that are made less cheaply than today’s consumer goods. I used to have a space saving rule: if was decorative it better be flat and hung on a wall. However, since moving into a large home this restriction doesn’t apply much anymore. I don’t really care for figurines or hyped modern collectibles like beanie babies.
Recent obsessions
Ethnic and Religious Jewelry
I love my ethnic jewelry! This is a collection I can wear!
Bagatelles (75-100)
I began collecting bagatelles in 1998.I found my first three (3) at a shop in Ste-Foy for 60$. Each of these is worth about 100$ today. I continued buying bagatelles on eBay for a few years after that. Bagatelles were produced for 100 years and span a whole century of ideas, evens and subject matters. Most of my bagatelles are in storage off-site however some (wood and metal) are waiting to be hung in the new home. I will likely put them up in the hallway.
Starbucks City Cups
Every time a friend leaves for a trip I request a Starbucks coffee cup. I have 10, 7 are first series and 3 are new series. The old series ones are way to big to drink coffee from but they are perfect for soup. Second series cups are smaller and suitable for coffee.
Funny Coffee Cups From Places In the US (I have never been)
This all started with a set of four cups found on eBay. These are cups I use everyday. Because they are souvenirs, thrift stors have a regular supply of them in unused condition. They beat boring plain cups. My favorite is I Love Intercourse, PA of course.
Coffee Cups from Tech/Science Companies
I only have a few of those because I don’t really need anymore cups for now. Favorites are white Fisher Scientific. Very old school nerdy!
Paintings of Robots
I only have two paintings of robots but I consider them a collection because each was painted by an artist I really like. Picture and stories to come later.
